Her original name is Yachiru Unohana, and she was a brutal criminal, the first to found the 11th Division of the Gotei 13, a division focused on pure combat.
She was the main inspiration for the current Kenpachi, Zaraki Kenpachi, who, without knowing it, defeated her in a fight when he was a child. The confrontation was so traumatic for Zaraki that he suppressed his memories and unconsciously limited his own power so he could have a “fun” fight against someone as strong as Unohana again.
Her Role in the Story
Unohana became the captain of the 4th Division to suppress her murderous nature and use her combat and healing abilities for good. In the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, she returns to fight Zaraki in a brutal battle, with the sole purpose of helping him recover his full power.
